Varsity Baseball Wins on Opening Day

The Rocks took the lead late in the game in a 5-4 victory over Urbana on Tuesday. The game was tied at four with the Rocks batting in the bottom of the fifth when Ethan Wendt singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Urbana got things started in the first inning when Teepe singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run

After Urbana scored one run in the top of the fourth, the Rocks answered with one of their own. Urbana scored when Hildebrand singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. The Rocks then answered when an error scored one run for the Rocks.

Drew Monahan was the winning pitcher. The right-hander went three innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out three and walking zero. Carson Wilcox threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Wilcox recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Rocks. Adam Grzywinski lasted three innings, allowing one hit and three runs while striking out three.

The Rocks tallied seven hits in the game. Ethan Wendt and Justin Harper had multiple hits for the Rocks.
