The Rock girls track team finished 3rd and the boys team finished 5th in the state of Ohio. Megan Cameron was 10th in the pole vault, going 11’ 6” and losing out on a podium spot by the tie breakers. JasonBoateng went 6’ 7” and was 2nd place in the high jump. The boys 4×800 relay of Tyndale Hannan, Tommy Alford, Lucas Bons and Simon Alford ran 7:39.93 (5th fastest in state meet history and the fastest ever non-winning time) also took 2nd in a very close race. Tyndale (1:53.90) took 5th and Simon (1:54.40) took 7th in the open 800. Abby Steiner had an amazing meet. She followed up her 11.60 Owens Stadium record 100 dash prelim with a diving finish to beat the two time defending state champion in the 100 meter dash final, 11.87 to 11.89. Just a few minutes later she teamed with Shannon Downie, Wambui Watene and Shaunqueza Stevens and overcame a large deficit on the 4×200 meter anchor leg to run the #4 all time state meet mark and snatch victory 1:38.53 to 1:38.54. Coming out of the storm delay the girls 4×100 relay team of Shannon Downie, Wambui Watene, Shaunqueza Stevens and Megan Gregory ran a 48.53 for 7th place. Abby Steiner defended her 200 meter dash title on a very wet track into the wind, still running a 23.92, winning by almost a half second. The capstone to the night was our seniors, who had missed their graduation, got their diplomas from our principal Mike Ulring and assistant principal Jaime Stewart at the Jesse Owens Statue.
