Game Recap

In one of the most high level Division 1 Girls Basketball contests of the season, Dublin Coffman advanced to the Regional Final with a 71-68 win over Pickerington Central.

Coffman led 16-10 with :48 remaining in the first quarter, followed by a 24-2 run by the Tigers. Coffman clawed their way back, cutting the halftime deficit to 8, capped by a 3 point jumper by Dana Axner as the first half horn sounded. (This would not be the last time the Shamrocks buried a 3 at the buzzer.)

Coffman stormed out of the half on a 10-2 run to tie the game. Pickerington Central would fight back, taking their own 4 point lead. Coffman led by 1 when Dana Axner was fouled, and injured. Kaitlin Kopyar, replaced her and converted both ends of a crucial one and one.

But the story was the grit showed by the Shamrocks. Paige Warren was an unstoppable force in the fourth quarter, converting a layup with 57 secs remaining, to give Coffman a 2 point lead.

Pickerington Central called timeout with 37 seconds remaining, that would set up the most memorable half minute in Lady Shamrock history. Madison Green missed a 12 foot leaner, and the Tigers grabbed an offensive rebound and converted a 13 foot jumper to tie the game. Coffman advanced the ball quickly, but good hands by the Tigers forced a turnover with :13 left. What looked like a potential 3 on 2 situation, and a game winning layup, Abby Vollmer got her fingertips on the pass, leading to a turnover. Vollmer then with 3 seconds remainbig skipped the ball across the floor, to an awaiting Jacy Sheldon.

As Jacy’s 22 footer from the left wing, drew nothing but net and red lights illuminated both backboards, Coffman won their 25th game of the season.

Sheldon finished with 23, Warren 16 and contributions from their entire team.

The Rocks play for the Regional Championship Friday at 7:30, against AP#1 and undefeated, Newark.
